Majestic Theater

In our newsletter, we like to highlight a well-known haunted location here in Michigan. The more we explore the state and listen to the stories you share with us, the more we realize just how paranormally active our state is!

Today we are spotlighting The Majestic Theater in Detroit. As you may know, theaters are often found to have more than their share of ghostly occupants. This beautiful theater was built in 1915 and was at that time, the largest theater in Detroit showing movies. Its next incarnation was as a church and finally as a photography studio.

Today it is privately owned and is a venue for musical acts.
There is a legend about the theater that Harry Houdini performed his last act there before dying of peritonitis a few days later. The truth is that he did die of peritonitis but it was after performing at the Garrick Theater in Detroit on October 31st, 1926.

There have been numerous stories recounted by visitors. Some people have reported seeing full bodied apparitions, hearing voices, yelling and other paranormal activity.
Go check it out and maybe listen to one of the bands while you’re there. After listening to the musical entertainment at the Majestic, why not stop for a drink in the Ghost Bar, located in The Whitney on Woodward. You may run into the unidentified male apparition sighted there, or see the silverware on the tables move. The great thing about public places, for dinner or a drink you can experience first hand. Please write and let us know if you come across anything interesting!

SONY SX68 Recorder

One piece of equipment every paranormal investigator will want in their tool bag…a recorder to capture EVPs. I recently purchased the SONY SX68 recorder and I love it! You can actually hear what is being recorded in real time. The SX68 is easy to operate, is very slim and light to carry. It comes with a stand which is nice to have so you don’t pick up the sound of your hand brushing against the recorder…but you also hear everything louder. I could hear the conversations of other investigators as well as traffic outside the building. The price is right…you can pick one up for under $100! I went directly to Sony’s website to purchase my unit. -Kass Hillard. MPE 2009

A Ghost-Hunting We Shall Go...

~Michigan Paranormal Encounters~

Invites you take part in a Paranormal Investigation

At the Regent Theater in Allegan, MI

The Regent Theater was built in the late 1800s. Over the past 120+ years, it has undergone many incarnations – first as a stable, then an automobile garage and finally as a Vaudeville theater before it became the beautiful art-deco theater it is today. It has been restored to its 1920’s splendor and is owned and operated as a movie theater by the city of Allegan today.

It is believed that theaters are among the most paranormally active locations. The Regent seems to be a good example of this phenomenon. Join us on Saturday, June 13th for a late-night investigation to find out! Take advantage of this rare opportunity to explore the theater late when it has closed its doors to the public and invites you in to investigate its many secrets.

Reservations are required and a $10 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration. Class size will be limited to give participants the opportunity to investigate the building with a small group. The fee for this 2 hour investigation is $25. Individuals who have completed MPE’s Paranormal Investigation 101 class are entitled to a $5 discount. We will be meeting at Reflexions Plus in Allegan at 9:30 and the investigation will run from 10:00 P.M. until midnight.
